Choir History
Holme Valley Singers (formerly Holme Valley Choir) were formed in 1975 by Alan Simmons, the head of music at Holmfirth High School, from pupils, staff and parents. The Choir reached the final of the first Sainsbury's Choir of the Year competition, singing at the Royal Albert Hall. When Alan became an advisor for Kirklees he handed over the baton to James Morgan, who also took over as Head of Music at the school. Jim, who had led the choir with great style and passion over the last 25 years, stood down at Christmas 2007 to pursue some of his other, many musical interests.
He was clearly going to be a hard act to follow.
